Fired over Facebook

My initial reaction to this story is I am very surprised that he got fired over the shooting comment. I understand that some opinions are tough to talk about and are better if not said at all, but I do not think his opinion crossed any lines to where he should get fired.

The reason the employer provided was because of his comment on the recent shooting and he did not want his opinion to connect back to his job.

I believe the firing was legal because civil rights worker have the ability to search peoples comments and pages to look for causation for their actions.

Digital Footprint is the path you leave with your posts, comments, and reply's on your social media accounts. These are never truly deleted and can always be brought back.

The things on Facebook and Twitter are never private. Somebody always has a way to log into your account and see what you are posting and have posted in the past. That is why you must always be smart with what you save, post, and send. There is always somebody or something watching. The wifi you are connected to can also allow users to see what you have been viewing.

If I was his friend, I would ask him if he thought posting these comments were truly worth it to him and if he thought posting his opinion would make a difference. Some posts and comments are meant to stay inside and I think if he thought this way, that would overall benefit his decision and future.

The example I found was about a woman who was fired for posting her low salary on tiktok.

My initial reaction to this article was this seems extremely unfair. If the company is ashamed of their pay rates, they should raise them. They should not fire people over their doings.

The reason the employer provided for firing this woman was they said having her tiktok account was a safety concern because of her private posts.

I am not sure whether the firing was legal or not, but I do know that the National Relations Labor Act allows the woman to post any video she would like about her salary. I am unsure if the company had a legal accusation for her firing but from my reading, she seems like she has the ability to post her salary.
